How to sell TBH items on the Steam Market: step by step
By edelrich · 7/26/2026
A straightforward guide to turning the items in your TBH: Task Bar Hero stash into Steam Wallet balance, respecting the game's sending mechanic and understanding every cost along the way.
1. Before you start: what you need
To use the Steam Community Market you need a Steam account in good standing: with Steam Guard (mobile authenticator) active for at least a few days and no market restrictions. New accounts, or accounts that recently changed their password, can be temporarily blocked from trading. That is a Steam protection, not a game bug.
The item also needs to be tradable. Not every TBH item can go to the Market: some are flagged as non-marketable. In the tbhbau evaluator, items without a market are listed separately so you don't waste time on them.
2. The golden rule: 4 items every 8 hours
This is the detail that confuses newcomers the most. TBH does not let you dump your whole stash onto Steam at once. You can only send 4 items from the game to your Steam inventory every 8 hours. It is a limited window, which is why choosing the right 4 items makes all the difference to your earnings.
3. Sending items from the game to Steam
Inside TBH, look for the option to send/convert the item into a Steam item (usually in the stash or in the game's own market screen). Once confirmed, the item leaves the game and appears in your Steam inventory after a short processing time. Remember: only 4 per 8-hour window, so plan ahead.
4. Two ways to sell: list it or sell instantly
With the item in your Steam inventory, you have two strategies:
a) List it (put it up for sale)
You set a price and the item joins the sell queue. It sells when someone pays that amount, which can be quick or slow depending on price and demand. It pays more per unit but requires patience.
b) Sell instantly (hit the buy order)
Instead of waiting, you accept the highest active buy order, from someone already willing to buy at that price. The sale is instant. It pays a bit less than listing, but the money lands right away. It is the preferred method for anyone who wants quick liquidity.
5. Don't forget the Steam fee
Every sale on the Steam Market carries a fee: 5% for Steam + 10% for the game, which works out to a divisor of 1.15. In practice the seller receives about 87% of the listed price, an effective fee of roughly 13%. In other words: if an item shows $1.15, you pocket about $1.00.
That is why tbhbau shows the “net (after fee)” value next to the gross one, so you know in advance what will actually reach your wallet.
6. Quick recap
- Steam account with Steam Guard active and no restrictions;
- Send up to 4 items every 8 hours from the game to Steam, most profitable first;
- Choose between listing (more profit, more waiting) or selling instantly (less profit, immediate);
- Subtract the ~13% fee to know your net;
- Use the evaluator to see all of this for your whole stash at once.
